The increasing in-flowing influence of spiritualism and pagan-new age concepts are remodelled to deceive Gods church out of a true worship experience while disrupting the biblical order of how to establish a relationship with God. Church members stand guilty of embracing ungodly forms of spiritual exercises such as the fanatical manner of speaking in tongues and baptism of the Holy Spirit that are rooted in spiritual formation thus bypassing the specific last day scriptures that give warning of these encroachments:  

"Now the Spirit speaketh expresly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils." 1 Timothy 4:1 KJV

"And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness;..." 2 Cor. 11:14-15

The Holy Spirit that many wrongly claim is manifested with these odd spiritual exercises is the same Holy Spirit that shows in the above text to what spirit such odd behaviour belongs. This article will show the historical progression of these doctrines of devils in the form of different movements that pushed for their adoption in different churches and also the experience of Seventh-Day Adventist Pioneers, particularly Ellen G white who repelled with truth the advances of these movements in the 1840's and as late as the 1900's.

"History is repeating. With the open Bible before them, and professing to reverence its teachings, many of the religious leaders of our time are destroying faith in it as the word of God.... Those who turn from the plain teaching of Scripture and the convicting power of God’s Holy Spirit are inviting the control of demons....Side by side with the preaching of the gospel, agencies are at work which are but the medium of lying spirits." Desire of Ages, P 259

Before the article progresses any further there must be clarification concerning the term spiritual manifestation as the scripture uses the phrase and misguided teachers use the same to promote false worship as something ordained God. The scripture declares: 

"But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal." 1 Cor. 12:7 KJV

Sadly what the scripture describes is to not what is represented in belief and religious experience by church leaders and parishioners. Due to the influence of spiritualism and new age principles the term has been corrupted to now be a manifestation of a spirit that is not of God.

"A belief in spiritual manifestations opens the door to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, and thus the influence of evil angels will be felt in the churches" Great Controversy, P 605

The numerous movements and spiritualistic developments actually serve one purpose as outlined below: 

"And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty." Revelation 16:13-14 KJV

"Church members love what the world loves and are ready to join with them, and Satan determines to unite them in one body and thus strengthen his cause by sweeping all into the ranks of spiritualism. Papists, Protestants, and worldlings will alike accept the form of godliness without the power, and they will see in this union a grand movement for the conversion of the world and the ushering in of the long-expected millennium. Great Controversy, P 588

So to put things into context Spiritual baptism and the fanatical manner of speaking in tongues are just two forms of the spiritualism pills that church members are swallowing, thinking of it as heaven approved. It is indeed a sad thing that with open bibles church members arent discerning these dangers but are led a astray by blind guides and traditions of men. The growth of these doctrines of devils came in waves or movements of new light that parishioners were encouraged to accept. This also puts into perspective why there is a thrust for the uniting of all religions under one umbrella (Ecumenism) as spiritualism will serve as a bonding slime for all of them. Matthew Fox in his book: "The Coming of the Cosmic Christ" on page 172 writes:

"Without mysticism there will be no "deep ecumenism," no unleashing of the power of wisdom from all the world's religious traditions. Without this mysticism I am convinced there will never be global peace or justice since the human race needs spiritual depths and disciplines, celebration and rituals to awaken its better selves." 

With all that was shared the one question is where did all this come from? What were the major progressive movements that brought the churches to the current positions?
